The Api Saipal Trek is an 18-day hard-grade wilderness traverse of the Api Nampa Conservation Area in far west Nepal, visiting both Api Himal (7,132m) and Saipal Himal (7,031m) base camps. The trek begins with flights to Dhangadhi, then climbs through traditional Gurung and Chhetri villages, dense rhododendron forest, and alpine meadows, reaching Api Himal Base Camp, then crossing high ridges to reach Saipal Base Camp before descending via a different route. The region sees fewer than 50 foreign trekkers per year, making it one of Nepal’s most pristine wilderness destinations. Full-service camping is required for most nights in the high country.

Api Saipal Trek – 18 Days Itinerary

Morning flight to Dhangadhi, then 6-hour jeep ride to Dadeldhura.
8-hour scenic jeep ride through the far-western hills to Ghusa.
Begin trekking through traditional villages.
Continue through forest with first views of Api Himal.
Climb through rhododendron and oak forest.
Reach the lower Api base camp. Tents are set up by our crew.
Climb to Api Himal Base Camp (4,000m) with spectacular mountain views.
Cross a high ridge to reach Saipal Base Camp. Full day of high-altitude wilderness trekking.
Full day at Saipal Base Camp with photography, exploration, and side hikes.
Begin the descent via a different route through the Tinkar valley.
Continue descending.
Final descent to Darchula. Celebration dinner.
Long jeep ride back through the far-western hills.

This trek is rated 과격한. Hard treks involve 6-8+ hours of walking daily at high altitude. Previous high-altitude experience strongly recommended. The maximum altitude is 4500m. You need a fitness level of Moderate to High – cardio training 3-4 times weekly for 8-12 weeks before departure, hill walking with a day pack, and core strength exercises.

Altitude Safety
Maximum altitude is 4500m. Above 3,500m, altitude sickness is a real risk. Our itinerary includes acclimatization days, guides carry pulse oximeters and emergency oxygen. Walk slowly, stay hydrated (3-4 liters daily), avoid alcohol above 3,500m, report symptoms immediately. Travel insurance covering helicopter evacuation is mandatory.

Insurance Requirement
Travel insurance is mandatory for all our treks and tours. Your insurance must cover trekking to 4500m altitude (for treks), emergency helicopter evacuation up to USD 10,000, emergency medical treatment, and trip cancellation. We recommend World Nomads, IMG Global, or Allianz Adventure plans. Bring a printed copy of your insurance certificate.

Cultural Etiquette
Dress modestly at religious sites (cover shoulders and knees). Remove shoes before entering temple sanctums. Walk clockwise around stupas and chortens. Ask permission before photographing people. Use your right hand for eating and passing items. Say namaste (palms together) as a greeting.

To confirm your booking, a deposit is required (50% for helicopter tours). The balance is due 30 days before departure (7 days for helicopter tours).
