Himlung Himal (7,126m / 23,376 ft) is an expedition peak in the ماناسلو region of north-central Nepal, located in the remote Nar Phu valley near the Tibetan border. The peak lies at approximately 28 degrees 46 minutes north latitude and 84 degrees 18 minutes east longitude, in the Manaslu Conservation Area. Himlung Himal was first climbed on 27 October 1992 by a Japanese expedition led by Toshio Yanagi, via the west ridge. The mountain is classified as an expedition peak requiring a climbing permit from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Civil Aviation and Sports. The standard route climbs the west ridge, with Base Camp at approximately 4,850m in the upper Phu valley. The route establishes three high camps: Camp 1 at 5,400m on the glacier, Camp 2 at 6,000m at the start of the west ridge, and Camp 3 at 6,500m on the ridge itself. The summit push from Camp 3 involves climbing 40-50 degree snow slopes on the upper mountain, with the final section traversing a narrow exposed ridge to the summit. The technical difficulty is rated AD on the Alpine grading system, similar to other 7,000m expedition peaks.Himlung Himal is one of the most accessible 7,000m peaks in Nepal, with a moderate technical difficulty that makes it suitable for climbers transitioning from trekking peaks to full expeditions. The mountain is significantly less crowded than other 7,000m peaks such as Pumori or Baruntse, with typically only 2-3 expeditions per season. The summit rewards climbers with views of Manaslu (8,163m), the world eighth-highest mountain, the entire Annapurna range, the Tibetan plateau, and the distant Kangchenjunga range. The approach is via the remote Nar Phu valley, accessed from بيسيسار on the Annapurna Circuit through Koto, Meta, Nar, and Phu villages. The Nar Phu valley is one of Nepal least-visited restricted areas, with traditional Tibetan Buddhist villages, ancient gompas, and dramatic canyon scenery. The expedition uses full camping throughout the Nar Phu valley as there are no tea houses. The best climbing seasons are spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October). The expedition requires full base camp services with kitchen crew, dining tent, and communication equipment.
