Baruntse (7,129m / 23,389 ft) is an expedition peak in the Makalu region of north-east Nepal, located between Everest and Makalu in the remote Hunku valley. The peak lies at approximately 27 degrees 52 minutes north latitude and 87 degrees 06 minutes east longitude, in the Makalu Barun National Park. Baruntse was first climbed on 30 May 1954 by Colin Todd and Geoff Harrow of a New Zealand expedition led by Edmund Hillary, via the South Ridge. The mountain is classified as an expedition peak requiring a climbing permit from the Ministry of Tourism.The standard route climbs the South Ridge, with Base Camp at approximately 5,300m in the upper Hunku valley. The route establishes two high camps: Camp 1 at 5,800m on the lower South Ridge and Camp 2 at 6,300m on the upper ridge. The summit push from Camp 2 involves climbing 40-50 degree snow slopes with some short ice pitches on the upper mountain, with the final section traversing an exposed summit ridge to the top. The technical difficulty is rated AD on the Alpine grading system, similar to Himlung Himal.Baruntse is one of the most remote 7,000m expedition peaks in Nepal, accessed via the famous Mera La pass (5,415m) and the Hunku valley. The approach is one of the longest of any expedition peak in Nepal, taking 10 days of trekking from 卢克拉 through the Hinku valley, over the Mera La, and into the Hunku valley. The mountain is significantly less crowded than other 7,000m peaks such as Pumori, with typically only 1-2 expeditions per season. The summit rewards climbers with views of Everest (8,849m), Lhotse (8,516m), Makalu (8,485m), Kangchenjunga (8,586m), and the entire eastern Himalaya.The approach is via the Hinku valley from Lukla, with acclimatization days at Tangnag and Khare before crossing the Mera La pass into the Hunku valley. The region is culturally Tibetan Buddhist Sherpa homeland in the Hinku valley, with the last permanent settlement at Khare and full camping above. The best climbing seasons are spring (April-May) and autumn (October-November), with spring being more popular for Baruntse due to more stable snow conditions on the upper mountain.

Continue up the Hinku valley through forest and alpine meadows to Tangnag, the base for acclimatization before the Mera La pass.

Trek to Khare

Continue up the Hinku valley to Khare, the last permanent settlement before the Mera La pass. First views of Mera Peak and Baruntse in the distance.

Cross Mera La & Trek to Baruntse Base Camp

Cross the famous Mera La pass (5,415m) with dramatic views of the Hunku valley, then descend to establish Baruntse Base Camp at 5,300m. Establish full base camp with dining tent, kitchen, and communication equipment.

Puja Ceremony & Climbing Training at Base Camp

Traditional Buddhist puja ceremony to bless the expedition, followed by climbing training. Pack and prepare for the Camp 1 carry.

Establish Camp 1

Climb the lower South Ridge on fixed ropes to establish Camp 1 at 5,800m. Carry loads and return to Base Camp.

Carry to Camp 1, Return to Base Camp

Second carry to Camp 1 with additional loads. Return to Base Camp for rest.

Move to Camp 1

Climb to Camp 1 and establish the camp. Spend the night at altitude for acclimatization.

Establish Camp 2

Climb the South Ridge to establish Camp 2 at 6,300m on the upper ridge. Carry loads and return to Camp 1.

Acclimatization at Camp 2

Climb to Camp 2 for acclimatization. Optional short climb higher. Return to Camp 1 for the night.

Rest at Base Camp

Descend from Camp 1 to Base Camp for rest and recovery. Review weather forecast and summit plan.

Move to Camp 1

Climb back to Camp 1 to begin the summit rotation.

第 21 天：

Move to Camp 2

Climb to Camp 2 and establish the camp. Prepare for the summit push.

第22天：

Summit Push & Descend to Camp 2

Pre-dawn start at midnight. Climb 40-50 degree snow slopes with some short ice pitches on fixed ropes, traversing the exposed summit ridge to the 7,129m summit. Spectacular views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Kangchenjunga. Descend to Camp 2.

Continue descending through the Hinku valley back to Tangnag.

Day 28 :

Trek to Tashing Ongma

Continue descending through the Hinku valley back to Tashing Ongma.

Day 29 :

Cross Zatrwa La & Trek to Tuli Kharka

Climb back over the Zatrwa La pass (4,600m) and descend to Tuli Kharka.

Day 30 :

Trek to Chhuthang

Continue descending through forest back to Chhuthang. Celebration dinner with the climbing crew.

Day 31 :
