Baruntse Expedition – 35 Days

Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport with private vehicle transfer to your hotel in Thamel. Evening welcome dinner and expedition briefing.

Full day expedition briefing and permit processing with the Ministry of Tourism. Equipment check and packing.

رحلة صباحية ذات مناظر خلابة إلى الليكات (2,840m). Begin trekking south below Lukla to the village of Chhuthang at 2,800m. Establish camp at the start of the approach to the Hinku valley.

Climb steeply through forest to the Zatrwa La pass (4,600m) with panoramic views of the Khumbu, then descend to Tuli Kharka in the Hinku valley.

Continue descending through the Hinku valley to the village of Tashing Ongma, the first permanent settlement in the Hinku valley.

Continue up the Hinku valley through forest and alpine meadows to Tangnag, the base for acclimatization before the Mera La pass.

Full acclimatization day in Tangnag. Optional hike to Kusum Kanguru base camp for acclimatization. Equipment check.

Continue up the Hinku valley to Khare, the last permanent settlement before the Mera La pass. First views of Mera Peak and Baruntse in the distance.

Full acclimatization day in Khare. Optional hike above the village for acclimatization. Equipment check and climbing briefing.

Climb above Khare to reach Mera Base Camp at 5,300m at the base of the Mera La pass. Establish camp with full kitchen service.

Rest and acclimatization day at Mera Base Camp. Optional short hike to the Mera La for acclimatization. Equipment check.

Cross the famous Mera La pass (5,415m) with dramatic views of the Hunku valley, then descend to establish Baruntse Base Camp at 5,300m. Establish full base camp with dining tent, kitchen, and communication equipment.

Traditional Buddhist puja ceremony to bless the expedition, followed by climbing training. Pack and prepare for the Camp 1 carry.

Climb the lower South Ridge on fixed ropes to establish Camp 1 at 5,800m. Carry loads and return to Base Camp.

Second carry to Camp 1 with additional loads. Return to Base Camp for rest.

Climb to Camp 1 and establish the camp. Spend the night at altitude for acclimatization.

Climb the South Ridge to establish Camp 2 at 6,300m on the upper ridge. Carry loads and return to Camp 1.

Climb to Camp 2 for acclimatization. Optional short climb higher. Return to Camp 1 for the night.

Descend from Camp 1 to Base Camp for rest and recovery. Review weather forecast and summit plan.

Climb back to Camp 1 to begin the summit rotation.

Climb to Camp 2 and establish the camp. Prepare for the summit push.

Pre-dawn start at midnight. Climb 40-50 degree snow slopes with some short ice pitches on fixed ropes, traversing the exposed summit ridge to the 7,129m summit. Spectacular views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Kangchenjunga. Descend to Camp 2.

Continue descending from Camp 2 to Base Camp for celebration and hot meals.

Buffer day reserved for weather or acclimatization. If the summit was achieved on Day 22, rest at Base Camp. If summit was postponed, attempt again from Camp 2.

Second buffer day reserved for weather. Baruntse is in a remote area and weather windows can be short.

Recross the Mera La pass and descend back to Khare for rest and a celebratory meal.

Continue descending through the Hinku valley back to Tangnag.

Continue descending through the Hinku valley back to Tashing Ongma.

Climb back over the Zatrwa La pass (4,600m) and descend to Tuli Kharka.

Continue descending through forest back to Chhuthang. Celebration dinner with the climbing crew.

Final short trek from Chhuthang up to الليكات. Celebration dinner with the climbing crew.

Morning scenic flight from الليكات عودة إلى كاتماندو. Check in to hotel and evening farewell dinner.
