The Manaslu Photography Trek is a 17-day specialist trek led by a professional mountain photographer, designed for serious amateur and professional photographers wanting to capture the dramatic landscapes and rich Tibetan-Buddhist culture of the Manaslu region. The trek follows the classic Manaslu Circuit route but with deliberate timing for sunrise and sunset shoots, dedicated time at Larkya La high camp for the iconic pass-crossing panorama, side trips to Pungen Gompa and Manaslu Base Camp for close-up mountain photography, and cultural portrait sessions at Samagaun and Samdo. Our photography guide is a published mountain photographer with credits in Sidetracked and Outdoor Photography magazines. We carry tripods for client use, provide a pre-trip portfolio review, and offer a post-trip image editing workshop.

Arrival in Kathmandu

Drive to Soti Khola

8-hour scenic jeep ride. Afternoon landscape photography along the Budi Gandaki.

Day 04 :

Trek to Machha Khola

Begin trekking. Afternoon light shoot of terraced hillsides and Gurung villages.

Day 05 :

Trek to Jagat

Continue through forest. Cultural photography at Tibetan-Buddhist villages.

Day 06 :

Trek to Deng

Climb through forest with expanding mountain views. Prayer flag and chorten photography.

Trek to Namrung

Trek to Samdo

Climb to Samdo. Cultural portraits with Tibetan refugee families.

Hike to Larkya La High Camp

Climb toward Larkya La for sunset photography at the high camp.

Day 13 :

Sunrise at Larkya La & Trek to Bhimphedi

Pre-dawn climb to Larkya La Pass (5,106m) for the iconic sunrise panorama. Long descent.

Day 14 :

Trek to Tilije

Continue descending. Final landscape photography in the Dudh Khola valley.

Day 15 :

Trek to Dharapani & Drive to Besisahar

Final trek to Dharapani, then jeep ride to Besisahar.

Day 16 :

Drive to Kathmandu

6-hour jeep ride back to Kathmandu. Post-trip image editing workshop.

Day 17 :

Final Departure

Transfer to the international airport for your onward flight.

Altitude Safety

Maximum altitude is 5106m. Above 3,500m, altitude sickness is a real risk. Our itinerary includes acclimatization days, guides carry pulse oximeters and emergency oxygen. Walk slowly, stay hydrated (3-4 liters daily), avoid alcohol above 3,500m, report symptoms immediately. Travel insurance covering helicopter evacuation is mandatory.

Insurance Requirement

Travel insurance is mandatory for all our treks and tours. Your insurance must cover trekking to 5106m altitude (for treks), emergency helicopter evacuation up to USD 10,000, emergency medical treatment, and trip cancellation. Cultural Etiquette

Dress modestly at religious sites (cover shoulders and knees). Remove shoes before entering temple sanctums. Walk clockwise around stupas and chortens. Ask permission before photographing people. Use your right hand for eating and passing items. Say namaste (palms together) as a greeting.

To confirm your booking, a deposit is required (50% for helicopter tours). The balance is due 30 days before departure (7 days for helicopter tours). When is the best time to do the Manaslu Photography Trek?

Is altitude sickness a risk and how do I prevent it?

Above 3,500m, altitude sickness (AMS) affects 25-40% of trekkers. Our itinerary includes acclimatization days, guides carry pulse oximeters and emergency oxygen, and they are trained to identify early symptoms. Prevention: ascend slowly (no more than 300-500m sleeping altitude per day above 3,500m), drink 3-4 liters of water daily, avoid alcohol above 3,500m, eat light meals, and report any symptoms immediately.
