Ama Dablam (6,812m / 22,349 ft) is an expedition peak in the Khumbu region of north-east Nepal, located in the heart of the Everest region between 남체바자 and Everest Base Camp. The peak lies at approximately 27 degrees 51 minutes north latitude and 86 degrees 51 minutes east longitude, in the Sagarmatha National Park. The name Ama Dablam means Mother and Child in Sherpa, referring to the long central ridge (the mother) and the smaller hanging glacier (the child, or dablam, the traditional pendant worn by Sherpa women). Ama Dablam was first climbed on 13 March 1961 by Mike Gill, Barry Bishop, Mike Ward, and Wally Romanes of a New Zealand-American expedition led by Edmund Hillary, via the Southwest Ridge.Ama Dablam is widely considered one of the most beautiful mountains in the world, with its distinctive pyramid shape, perfect proportions, and dramatic hanging glacier. The standard Southwest Ridge route is technically demanding, with sustained rock, snow, and ice climbing on all four camps. The route establishes Base Camp at 4,600m, Camp 1 at 5,700m on a broad ridge, Camp 2 at 6,000m at the base of the Yellow Tower, and Camp 3 at 6,300m above the Yellow Tower. The summit push involves climbing the Yellow Tower (a vertical rock pitch), traversing the Mushroom Ridge, and climbing the final snow slopes to the summit. The technical difficulty is rated TD on the Alpine grading system.Ama Dablam is one of the most sought-after expedition peaks in the Himalaya due to its combination of technical climbing and iconic beauty. The mountain is significantly more technical than trekking peaks but is accessible to climbers with previous 6,000m peak experience and solid rock, ice, and snow climbing skills. The famous hanging glacier (the dablam) below Camp 3 has historically been a significant hazard, with a major ice avalanche in November 2006 that killed four climbers. Our route uses an alternative camp 3 position to avoid this hazard. The summit rewards climbers with views of Everest (8,849m), Lhotse (8,516m), Nuptse (7,861m), Makalu (8,485m), and the entire Khumbu range.The approach follows the classic Everest Base Camp trekking route from Lukla through Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, and Pangboche to Ama Dablam Base Camp at 4,600m. The region is culturally Tibetan Buddhist Sherpa homeland, with traditional villages, ancient monasteries at Tengboche and Pangboche, and prayer walls along the trail. The best climbing seasons are spring (April-May) and autumn (October-November), with autumn being the most popular for Ama Dablam due to colder but more stable conditions.

Day 03 :

Fly to Lukla & Trek to Phakding

Morning scenic flight to Lukla (2,840m). Begin trekking 3-4 hours along the Dudh Koshi River through pine forest to reach Phakding.

Day 04 :

Trek to Namche Bazaar

Cross several suspension bridges and climb through pine forest to 남체바자. First views of Everest and Lhotse.

Day 05 :

Acclimatization in Namche

Full acclimatization day with hike to Everest View Hotel (3,880m) for panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam.

Day 06 :

Trek to Tengboche

Trek to Tengboche with its famous monastery, the largest in the Khumbu region. First close views of Ama Dablam dominating the skyline.

Day 07 :

Trek to Pangboche

Continue to Pangboche, the highest permanent Sherpa village, with its famous 400-year-old monastery and Yeti scalp relic.

Day 08 :

Trek to Ama Dablam Base Camp

Leave the main Everest trail at Pangboche and climb to the east to reach Ama Dablam Base Camp at 4,600m. Establish full base camp with dining tent, kitchen, and communication equipment.

Day 09 :

Rest & Acclimatization at Base Camp

Full acclimatization day at Base Camp. Optional short hike above camp. Equipment check.

Day 10 :

Puja Ceremony & Climbing Training at Base Camp

Traditional Buddhist puja ceremony to bless the expedition, followed by climbing training. Pack and prepare for the Camp 1 carry.

Day 11 :

Establish Camp 1

Climb the lower Southwest Ridge on fixed ropes to establish Camp 1 at 5,700m on a broad ridge. Carry loads and return to Base Camp.

Day 12 :

Move to Camp 1

Climb to Camp 1 and establish the camp. Spend the night at altitude for acclimatization.

Day 13 :

Establish Camp 2

Climb the ridge with several rock pitches to establish Camp 2 at 6,000m at the base of the Yellow Tower. Carry loads and return to Camp 1.

Day 14 :

Acclimatization at Camp 2, Descend to Camp 1

Climb to Camp 2 for acclimatization. Optional short climb higher. Return to Camp 1 for the night.

Day 15 :

Rest at Base Camp

Descend from Camp 1 to Base Camp for rest and recovery. Review weather forecast and summit plan.

Day 16 :

Move to Camp 1

Climb back to Camp 1 to begin the summit rotation.

Day 17 :

Move to Camp 2

Climb to Camp 2 and establish the camp. Prepare for the Camp 3 carry.

Day 18 :

Establish Camp 3

Climb the Yellow Tower (a vertical rock pitch on fixed ropes) and the Mushroom Ridge to establish Camp 3 at 6,300m. Carry loads and return to Camp 2.

Day 19 :

Move to Camp 3

Climb back to Camp 3 to prepare for the summit push. Rest and hydrate for the early start.

Day 20 :

Summit Push & Descend to Camp 2

Pre-dawn start at midnight. Climb the final snow slopes and ice pitches on fixed ropes to the 6,812m summit. Spectacular views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Makalu. Descend to Camp 2.

Day 21 :

Descend to Base Camp

Continue descending from Camp 2 to Base Camp for celebration and hot meals.

Day 22 :

Buffer Day at Base Camp

Buffer day reserved for weather or acclimatization. If the summit was achieved on Day 20, rest at Base Camp. If summit was postponed, attempt again from Camp 3.

Day 23 :

Buffer Day for Weather

Second buffer day reserved for weather. Ama Dablam summit windows can be short due to high winds on the upper mountain.

Day 24 :

Trek to Pangboche

Descend from Base Camp back to Pangboche village for hot showers and a celebratory meal with the local Sherpa community.

Day 25 :

Trek to Namche Bazaar

Continue descending through Tengboche back to 남체바자 for hot showers and bakery treats.

Day 26 :

Trek to Lukla

Final trekking day retracing the route through Phakding back to Lukla. Celebration dinner with the climbing crew.

Day 27 :

Fly to Kathmandu

Morning scenic flight from Lukla back to 카트만두. Check in to hotel and evening farewell dinner.

Day 28 :

Buffer Day in Kathmandu

Buffer day for Lukla flight delays or rest in 카트만두. Visit CIWEC Clinic for a check-up.

Day 29 :

Sightseeing in Kathmandu

Full-day guided tour of 카트만두 UNESCO sites: Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, Pashupatinath, and Kathmandu Durbar Square.

Cultural Etiquette

Dress modestly at religious sites (cover shoulders and knees). Remove shoes before entering temple sanctums. Walk clockwise around stupas and chortens. Ask permission before photographing people. Use your right hand for eating and passing items. Say namaste (palms together) as a greeting.
