The Gokyo Lake Trek is a 13-day moderate trek to the sacred Gokyo Lakes (4,790m) and the Gokyo Ri viewpoint (5,360m), offering what many consider the most beautiful mountain panorama in Nepal. The route branches off the main EBC trail at Namche Bazaar, climbing through the Gokyo valley past a series of sacred turquoise lakes fed by the Ngozumpa Glacier, the largest glacier in the Khumbu. From Gokyo Ri at sunrise, you see four 8,000m peaks: Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu, plus the dramatic Ngozumpa Glacier stretching below. The trek is significantly less crowded than the main EBC route and offers a different perspective on the Khumbu region. The maximum altitude of 5,360m at Gokyo Ri requires careful acclimatization.

Highlights

  • Climb Gokyo Ri (5,360m) for sunrise views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu.
  • Walk beside the sacred turquoise Gokyo Lakes, sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists.
  • See the Ngozumpa Glacier, the largest glacier in the Khumbu region.
  • Less crowded alternative to the main EBC route.
  • Visit the traditional Sherpa village of Khumjung on the return route.
