Detaljeret opdeling
Khopra Ridge is a community-managed viewpoint at 3,660 metres on the western side of the Annapurna Sanctuary. The ridge runs east to west above the Kali Gandaki gorge, with a clear line of sight to the Dhaulagiri range to the west and the Annapurna range to the east. The Khopra community lodge sits on the ridgetop and offers the only overnight accommodation at this altitude in the area.
The panorama covers six named peaks above 6,400 metres and two 8,000 metre peaks. To the west, Dhaulagiri I at 8,167 metres dominates the horizon at 25 km distance, with Dhaulagiri II, III, and V visible to its left. To the northwest, Tukuche Peak at 6,920 metres and Nilgiri North at 7,061 metres frame the Kali Gandaki gorge, the deepest river gorge in the world.
To the east, Annapurna South at 7,219 metres and Hiunchuli at 6,441 metres form the southern wall of the Annapurna Sanctuary, with Machhapuchhre at 6,993 metres visible behind. To the northeast, Annapurna I at 8,091 metres, the 10th highest mountain in the world, is visible above the Fang peak at 35 km distance.
The Kaire Lake side trip adds a second viewpoint. The 5 hour round trip from Khopra reaches Kaire Lake at 4,060 metres, a small glacial lake at the foot of Annapurna South. The lake is frozen from November to April and reflects Annapurna South on still mornings from May to October.

Hvad påvirker svaret
Visibility depends on season and time of day. October and November have 80 to 90 percent clear dawns, with cloud building by 9:00 AM. March and April have 60 to 75 percent clear dawns. December to February is the clearest window but cold at minus 5 to minus 10 at the lodge overnight.
Time of day shapes the view. Dhaulagiri catches first light at 6:15 AM in October, with the east face of Annapurna South lighting up at 6:35 AM. By 9:00 AM, convective cloud builds over the sanctuary and reduces visibility by 30 percent.
Itinerary choice matters. The standard 5 day Khopra itinerary reaches the ridge on day 3 and departs on day 4, allowing only one dawn. The 7 day version adds the Kaire Lake side trip and a second dawn at the ridge.
Bookingtips
Book the Khopra community lodge 7 to 10 days ahead for October dates. The lodge has 8 rooms and fills by 4:00 PM in peak season. Carry USD 100 in cash; cards are not accepted above Ghandruk.
Plan the Kaire Lake side trip for day 4, leaving Khopra at 7:00 AM and returning by 1:00 PM. The trail crosses loose scree above 3,900 metres and requires a guide if there is fresh snow.
Hire a guide in Pokhara if you want the cultural and botanical context of the ridge. Local Magar guides from Ghandruk and Tadapani cost USD 35 per day and identify medicinal plants, monastery caves, and village history.
Sammenligning med alternativer
Poon Hill at 3,210 metres offers a wider Annapurna panorama but is 30 km further from Dhaulagiri and 450 metres lower than Khopra. Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 metres is closer to Annapurna I but inside the sanctuary, with no Dhaulagiri view.
Mohare Danda at 3,300 metres offers a similar Dhaulagiri panorama but is 1,000 metres further from the massif than Khopra. The Three Passes Trek in Khumbu is the strongest alternative for a multi-peak panorama but requires 18 to 21 days and the Lukla flight.
Almindelige fejl at undgå
Skipping the Kaire Lake side trip. The lake is the strongest single viewpoint in the Annapurna region for Annapurna South reflection shots.
Booking only one night at Khopra. Two nights give a backup dawn if the first morning clouds over, plus time for the Kaire Lake trip.
Trekking up from Ghandruk in one day. The 1,800 metre climb is too much; break at Tadapani or Bayeli to acclimatize and enjoy the forest.
