The Gosaikunda Trek is a 7-day moderate trek to the sacred alpine lake of Gosaikunda (4,380m), one of the most important Hindu and Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Nepal. According to Hindu mythology, the lake was created when Lord Shiva struck the mountain with his trident to find water after consuming poison. The trek begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Dhunche, then climbs through rhododendron and pine forest, past terraced hillsides and Tamang villages, to reach the lake at 4,380m. The pilgrimage reaches its peak during the Janai Purnima festival (August) when thousands of pilgrims and sadhus (Hindu holy men) bathe in the lake’s freezing waters. The trek offers spectacular mountain views, rich cultural immersion, and a deep spiritual experience, all within easy reach of Kathmandu.
