The Everest Photography Trek is a 16-day specialist trek led by a professional mountain photographer, designed for serious amateur and professional photographers who want to capture the iconic landscapes of the Khumbu region in the best possible light. The trek follows the classic EBC route but with deliberate timing for sunrise and sunset shoots, two return visits to Kala Patthar (the most photogenic sunrise viewpoint in the region), a side trip to the Gokyo Lakes for reflections of Cho Oyu, and dedicated time at Tengboche Monastery for cultural photography. Our photography guide is a published mountain photographer who has shot for National Geographic and Outside Magazine. We carry tripods for client use, provide a pre-trip portfolio review, and offer a post-trip image editing workshop.

Day 01 :

Arrival in Kathmandu

Arrival and transfer to hotel. Evening welcome dinner and portfolio review with photography guide.

Day 02 :

Equipment Check & Pre-Trip Workshop

Morning equipment check and cold-weather camera care workshop. Afternoon sightseeing for street photography in Kathmandu.

Day 03 :

Fly to Lukla & Trek to Phakding

Scenic flight to Lukla with aerial photography opportunities. Short trek to Phakding. Afternoon light shoot along the Dudh Koshi.

Day 04 :

Trek to Namche Bazaar

Cross suspension bridges and climb through forest. Sunset shoot of Namche from the Syangboche viewpoint.

Day 05 :

Acclimatization & Everest View Hotel

Sunrise shoot at Everest View Hotel. Visit Sherpa Museum. Afternoon market and street photography.

Day 06 :

Trek to Tengboche

Trek to Tengboche. Sunset shoot of Ama Dablam. Evening monastery photography (with permission).

Day 07 :

Trek to Pangboche

Continue to Pangboche, the highest permanent Sherpa village. Cultural portraits with local families.

Day 08 :

Trek to Dingboche

Trek to Dingboche in the Imja Tse valley. Sunset shoot of Lhotse and Island Peak.

Day 09 :

Side Trip to Gokyo via Phortse

Take the high route via Phortse to the Gokyo valley. Different vantage point for Ama Dablam photography.

Day 10 :

Trek to Machhermo

Continue up the Gokyo valley. Sunset shoot of the Ngozumpa Glacier.

Day 11 :

Trek to Gokyo

Reach the Gokyo Lakes. Afternoon reflection photography of Cho Oyu in the third lake.

Day 12 :

Sunrise at Gokyo Ri & Return to Gokyo

Pre-dawn climb to Gokyo Ri (5,360m) for sunrise on Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. Return to Gokyo for breakfast.

Day 13 :

Cross Cho La to Dzongla

Cross the Cho La Pass (5,420m) with dramatic glacier photography. Descend to Dzongla.

Day 14 :

Trek to Lobuche & Gorak Shep

Trek to Gorak Shep. Afternoon walk to Everest Base Camp for ice serac photography.

Day 15 :

Sunrise at Kala Patthar & Trek to Pheriche

Pre-dawn climb to Kala Patthar for the iconic Everest sunrise shoot. Long descent to Pheriche.

Day 16 :

Helicopter to Lukla & Fly to Kathmandu

Helicopter from Pheriche to Lukla, then flight to Kathmandu. Post-trip image editing workshop.

Altitude Safety

Maximum altitude is 5545m. Above 3,500m, altitude sickness is a real risk. Our itinerary includes acclimatization days, guides carry pulse oximeters and emergency oxygen. Walk slowly, stay hydrated (3-4 liters daily), avoid alcohol above 3,500m, report symptoms immediately. Travel insurance covering helicopter evacuation is mandatory.

Insurance Requirement

Travel insurance is mandatory for all our treks and tours. Your insurance must cover trekking to 5545m altitude (for treks), emergency helicopter evacuation up to USD 10,000, emergency medical treatment, and trip cancellation. Cultural Etiquette

Dress modestly at religious sites (cover shoulders and knees). Remove shoes before entering temple sanctums. Walk clockwise around stupas and chortens. Ask permission before photographing people. Use your right hand for eating and passing items. Say namaste (palms together) as a greeting.

To confirm your booking, a deposit is required (50% for helicopter tours). The balance is due 30 days before departure (7 days for helicopter tours). We accept bank transfer, credit card (4% surcharge), PayPal. Free cancellation up to 60 days before departure. We strongly recommend travel insurance covering trip cancellation. When is the best time to do the Everest Photography Trek?

Is altitude sickness a risk and how do I prevent it?

Above 3,500m, altitude sickness (AMS) affects 25-40% of trekkers. Our itinerary includes acclimatization days, guides carry pulse oximeters and emergency oxygen, and they are trained to identify early symptoms. Prevention: ascend slowly (no more than 300-500m sleeping altitude per day above 3,500m), drink 3-4 liters of water daily, avoid alcohol above 3,500m, eat light meals, and report any symptoms immediately.
