역사

Tansen was the capital of the Palpa kingdom, annexed by the Gorkha dynasty in 1806. The town was a strategic trade post between India and the hills. The Dhaka weaving tradition here produces the distinctive fabric used for the Nepali dhaka topi (the national hat). The Amar Narayan Temple (1847) was built by the Palpa governor Amar Singh Thapa. Tansen was heavily damaged in fighting during the 1950 revolution against the Ranas but has been restored.

The wildlife & national parks has been a corridor for trade, pilgrimage, and mountaineering for centuries. Tansen has witnessed the evolution of Nepal’s trekking industry, from the early expeditions of the 1950s to the modern tea-house network that today supports thousands of trekkers each year.

Local traditions reflect the deep cultural heritage of the Himalayan peoples, including the Newar, Magar, Brahmin, Chhetri. Oral histories, monastery records, and oral traditions document centuries of settlement, religious practice, and adaptation to high-altitude life.
