역사
Dhorpatan was established as a Hunting Reserve in 1987 to manage controlled hunting of blue sheep and Himalayan tahr, primarily for foreign trophy hunters. The area was a Tibetan refugee settlement in the 1960s following the 1959 Tibetan diaspora, and a small Tibetan community with a monastery remains. The reserve spans the transition zone between the lower hills and the high Dhaulagiri range, making it ecologically diverse.
The far west nepal has been a corridor for trade, pilgrimage, and mountaineering for centuries. Dhorpatan has witnessed the evolution of Nepal’s trekking industry, from the early expeditions of the 1950s to the modern tea-house network that today supports thousands of trekkers each year.
Local traditions reflect the deep cultural heritage of the Himalayan peoples, including the Magar, Chhetri, Brahmin, Tibetan (refugee settlement since 1960s). Oral histories, monastery records, and oral traditions document centuries of settlement, religious practice, and adaptation to high-altitude life.
