Ama Dablam was first climbed on 13 March 1961 by Mike Gill, Barry Bishop, Mike Ward, and Wally Romanes of a New Zealand-American expedition led by Edmund Hillary, via the Southwest Ridge.\n\nAma Dablam is widely considered one of the most beautiful mountains in the world, with its distinctive pyramid shape, perfect proportions, and dramatic hanging glacier. The standard Southwest Ridge route is technically demanding, with sustained rock, snow, and ice climbing on all four camps. The route establishes Base Camp at 4,600m, Camp 1 at 5,700m on a broad ridge, Camp 2 at 6,000m at the base of the Yellow Tower, and Camp 3 at 6,300m above the Yellow Tower.
