The Chisapani Nagarkot Trek is the closest multi day trek to Kathmandu, running through the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park north of the city. The standard route starts at Sundarijal (1,400 m), climbs to Chisapani (2,150 m) on day 1, traverses the forest ridge to Nagarkot (2,195 m) on day 2 or 3, and ends with a sunrise view of the Himalaya from Nagarkot.

The trail is well graded and well marked. Day 1 climbs 750 metres from Sundarijal to Chisapani over 5 to 6 hours on stone steps and forest trail. Day 2 runs 6 to 7 hours along the ridge through forest and Tamang villages. Day 3 is a short 3 to 4 hour walk to Nagarkot with a sunrise finish the next morning.

Altitude is not a concern. The high point at Nagarkot is 2,195 metres, well below the 2,500 metre threshold for altitude illness. Children and beginners handle the route with normal fitness.

The route has basic teahouses at Chisapani and comfortable lodges at Nagarkot. Hot showers and western toilets are standard at Nagarkot.
