The peak lies at approximately 28 degrees 12 minutes north latitude and 85 degrees 37 minutes east longitude, in the Langtang National Park. Yala Peak is one of Nepal easiest trekking peaks, with a non-technical ascent that makes it ideal for beginner climbers and trekking groups transitioning to mountaineering. The Nepal Mountaineering Association classifies it as a Group B trekking peak.

The standard route climbs the south-west slopes above Langtang village, with Base Camp at approximately 4,800m on a high yak pasture and a High Camp at around 5,100m. The summit push involves climbing straightforward snow slopes of 25-35 degrees, with no technical rock or ice climbing required. The technical difficulty is rated F (Facile) on the Alpine grading system, the easiest rating. Crampons and ice axe are required for the snow slopes, but ropes are typically only used as handrails on the final summit slope.

Yala Peak is the perfect introduction to Himalayan mountaineering for trekkers with no previous climbing experience. The climb is typically combined with a Langtang Valley trek, with acclimatization days at Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m) and a training day at Base Camp. The summit rewards climbers with stunning views of Shishapangma (8,027m), the world 14th-highest mountain, just across the border in Tibet, as well as Langtang Lirung (7,234m), Gangchenpo (6,387m), and the entire Langtang range.

The approach to Yala Peak follows the classic Langtang Valley trek from Syabrubesi through Lama Hotel, Langtang village, and Kyanjin Gompa. The region is culturally Tibetan Buddhist Tamang and Tibetan homeland, with traditional villages, the famous yak cheese factory at Kyanjin Gompa, and the ancient Kyanjin Monastery. The Langtang Valley was severely affected by the 2015 earthquake but has largely rebuilt. The best climbing seasons are spring (March-May) and autumn (October-November). The Langtang region is the closest major trekking area to Kathmandu, accessible by a 7-hour jeep drive with no flights required.

All airport pickups and drops in private vehicle
Kathmandu hotel (3 nights, B&B) with welcome and farewell dinners
Domestic flights where applicable to itinerary
All ground transport in private vehicle
All necessary permits (TIMS, National Park, Conservation Area, Restricted Area where applicable)
Three meals daily (BLD) during the trek with tea/coffee
Tea house or camping accommodation during the trek
Experienced English-speaking trekking guide and assistant guide for groups of 6+
Porters (1 per 2 trekkers, 15kg luggage allowance) with full insurance
Sleeping bag, down jacket, and duffel bag (refundable deposit)
First-aid kit, pulse oximeter, and emergency oxygen
Satellite phone for emergency communications
All government and local taxes
NMA Peak Permit fee
Climbing guide (Sherpa, NNMGA-certified)
Climbing equipment (crampons, ice axe, harness, helmet, ropes, carabiners)
High camp tents and cooking equipment
Fixed ropes on summit day
Emergency oxygen at base camp
Satellite phone for emergency communication
International airfare to and from Kathmandu
Nepal visa fee (USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 days)
Travel and high-altitude rescue insurance (mandatory)
Personal trekking gear and clothing
Hot showers, Wi-Fi, device charging, and alcoholic beverages
Lunch and dinner in Kathmandu
Tips for guide, porter, and driver (recommended 10-15% of trip cost)
Costs from unforeseen events (weather, flight delays, route changes)
Ankunft in Kathmandu

Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport with private vehicle transfer to your hotel in Thamel.
