Hvad påvirker svaret

Season is the biggest factor. October and November have the clearest air with visibility up to 200 kilometres. April is good but afternoon haze builds. May to September is monsoon with clouds blocking views most mornings.

Time of arrival at viewpoint matters. Sunrise is between 05:45 and 06:30 depending on season. Trekkers who arrive at 07:00 miss the clearest hour as clouds form by 09:00.

Lodge location changes the experience. Chisapani Hill View Lodge and Nagarkot View Tower have eastern facing rooms with direct sunrise views. Lower lodges require a 10 to 15 minute walk to the viewpoint.

Bookingtips

Book Chisapani Hill View Lodge and Nagarkot View Tower rooms at least one month ahead for October and November. The best rooms fill by August.

Ask for an east facing room with a window. The USD 5 to USD 10 premium is worth it for sunrise from bed.

Carry a torch for the 05:30 walk to the Nagarkot viewing tower. The trail is rocky and unlit.

Book a taxi pickup from Nagarkot for 09:00. The road to Kathmandu takes 90 to 120 minutes and traffic builds after 11:00.

Sammenligning med alternativer

Against Dhulikhel, Nagarkot has higher altitude and a more established viewing tower. Dhulikhel has newer lodges but a less dramatic sunrise.

Against Kakani, Chisapani has the advantage of being part of a multi day trek. Kakani is a 90 minute drive from Kathmandu and suits a day trip.

Against Sarangkot in Pokhara, both Chisapani and Nagarkot have wider east to west panoramas but no Annapurna close up. Sarangkot wins for Annapurna views.

Against Balthali Village Trek, Chisapani and Nagarkot offer better mountain views. Balthali is more cultural and lower altitude.

Almindelige fejl at undgå

Do not visit during monsoon. From June to September clouds block the mountains 80 percent of mornings. The trek is still pleasant but the views disappoint.

Do not skip the early wake up. Sunrise light lasts 30 to 45 minutes. By 07:30 clouds often form over the Ganesh Himal.

Do not expect Everest to be obvious. The Everest tip is small and 120 kilometres away. Look for it on the far right of the panorama, slightly higher than the surrounding ridges.

Do not underestimate the cold. Chisapani and Nagarkot drop to 5 to 8 Celsius in November nights. Bring a fleece and a down jacket for the sunrise viewing.
